Social Studies

Social Studies is the study of human decision-making to understand both how humans think and how to successfully pursue various goals within societies.

All students are expected to explore these themes through the study of the structures and outcomes in American Government, the logic and outcomes in economic systems, and an analysis of history inside and outside of the United States.

To achieve this, we guide students through the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) while analyzing the various decisions that are inherent in the topics covered by the standards.  This will also help explore issues of cause and effect, change and continuity, and an understanding of similarities across space and time.  It is also our goal to support the broader school goals of improved writing, improved critical thinking, and improved communication skills.  Finally, we aim to provide various elective options for students to explore specific topics with more depth.

Our social studies courses include:

  • American Government/Civics

  • AP Psychology

  • AP World History

  • Economics and Personal Finance

  • Microeconomics (AP)
