Katherine White

Hello! I am delighted to be entering my fifth year with the CTAE Department at Pickens High School as the Early Childhood Education teacher. I have been teaching since 2001. In my career, I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, first grade, and science and social studies to middle school students. I love teaching and I could not imagine doing anything else!

I graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education.  My husband, Joe, and I have been married for 20 years and we have three amazing children, Reagan (19), Reese (18), and Ridge (12). Reagan and Reese are attending college and Ridge will be a 6th grader at Jasper Middle School. We have lived here since 2002 and we are proud to call Jasper our home!

I am so excited to be working with your student this year! I truly believe that all that is learned in my classes will be used in my students' future! These classes will help anyone going into a career involving young children and are also a great life preparation course. Most students will grow up, marry, and have children someday. These classes cover the growth and development of young children and ways to give them delightful learning adventures.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not ever hesitate to email me or call me.

Employability Skills

While technical skills and subject-specific knowledge are important to employers, employability skills are essential to students’ professional development. Employability skills are the core, transferrable skills needed in nearly every job — such as conflict resolution, communication, and professional etiquette. In the CTAE department at Pickens High School, our goal is for our students to not only learn the technical skills of the class but also gain important soft skills that will benefit them in their future careers. In my class, students are given a weekly employability skills grade based on their behavior and performance in my classroom.

FCCLA: Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America

FCCLA is the student organization affiliated with this class. Mrs. Gibbons and Mrs. White are the chapter advisers. All students will learn basic information about FCCLA and are encouraged to join. Opportunities for leadership, competition, community service, and field trips are available through membership in FCCLA. Membership dues are $14 for the year and entitle the student to all that FCCLA has to offer. For more info: http://www.fcclainc.org/
