Welcome to the Media Center at PHS!

Welcome to the PHS Media Center! Your library staff is looking forward to working with you. If you have any questions or need any help, always ask. If we don't have answers, we can find out for you.

Our media center is open from 7:15 - 3:15 all day every day. Our space serves as the hub of our school and offers collaboration between students, staff and the school community. We strive to encourage student engagement and make sure students know how to obtain useful information in the many formats that it is given. We provide many book titles, ebooks, computers, color printers, project supplies and much more for students on a daily basis.

All students are required to have a pass from their classroom teacher to visit the media center. If classes are scheduled for certain blocks, we will ask you to come back at a more appropriate time so that we can give our attention to those students in the class.

Come in and take a look for your favorite book!

Media Center Information

  • Students will have an opportunity to visit the media center and check out books with their ELA class every 2 weeks. Students from other classes may visit when it is convenient with their classroom teachers.

  • During the school day, individuals with a pass from their teacher may visit to work on assignments, print assignments, read or check out books.

  • Please remember that students will need a pass and a purpose to be in the library. Students who are distracting others and keeping them from getting work done will be sent back to class. We maintain an atmosphere conducive to reading, studying and thinking in our library. While we don't mind students coming in for social time, we do not expect students to stay for an entire block to socialize.

  • There are tables and chairs to accommodate full classes or several small groups. We also have comfortable “soft” seating for relaxing and reading.

  • We also have study rooms available for those students who feel more comfortable on their own.

Dragon's Den

We sell a variety of snacks on alternating fundraiser days including popcorn, cokes and candy. Every day we are able to sell smart snacks which meet federal criteria for snack sales in schools. Students can visit the Dragon's Den during transition times or after school each day.

Destiny Discover also offers a free app titled Destiny Discover. Students may download this free app and log in to view our book titles and resources that we have available in our media center. This is great for road trips and other times when students want to read on their own.

Makerspace Logo

Our Media Center offers a small Makerspace area - an area in which people with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge. This is a place for thinking, learning, doing, creating, producing, and sharing; a space that takes advantage of multiple learning styles.

If interested, ask Ms. Moss or Mrs. Stancil where these items are located.
