Hi everyone! I am Kelly Flatt, and I am excited to serve as one of the assistant principals at Pickens High School. My roles at PHS include supervising PACE, supporting components of the special education department, facilitating the dress code and other aspects of discipline, and building relationships with everyone who enters the doors of our school.
The 2022-23 school year marks my tenth year in Pickens County and eighteenth year overall in education. Here in Pickens, I have served as a special education teacher, SPED department chair, CTI Coordinator, and Special Education Coordinator. I have also worked as the coordinator of both the virtual academy and alternative school (PACE) in the district. Before moving to Pickens, I worked as a special education teacher and cheer coach in Douglas County, school social worker and gang prevention specialist in Gwinnett County, and program policy specialist for the state office of DFCS. My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Human Services Counseling/Psychology, Master's of Social Work, Master's in Special Education, and Specialist in Educational Leadership.
Personally, I am part of an amazing family - my husband, Chad, and I have four kids who keep us moving nonstop! Jack, Ruby, Quincy, and Gus all attend school in Pickens County. When my family is not heading off to practice or games, I love to spend time baking/cooking, running, quilting and reading. I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA and enjoy going back to visit family as much as I can.
I am grateful to be a part of this community and school system; it has been a privilege to watch my own children grow in this district and be a part of families' lives as an educator for the last nine years. I look forward to supporting PHS students in the building, on the field, and throughout the school year. Go Dragons!
